Measles Mumps and Rubella are highly infectious conditions that can easily spread between unvaccinated people. Getting vaccinated is important, as these conditions can also lead to serious problems including meningitis, hearing loss and problems during pregnancy.

The MMR vaccine is the most effective way to protect you against measles, mumps and rubella. Millions of doses are given every year. Most side effects are mild and do not last long. Visit www.nhs.uk/mmr for more information on the vaccine. Two doses of the MMR vaccine provide the best protection against measles, mumps and rubella.

MMR vaccine coverage has been decreasing since 2013/14. In London and the West Midlands there have been recent outbreaks of measles. This has recently been reported by BBC News: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-68007804

There is a planned National MMR campaign which will be delivered during February and March 2024. MMR vaccination reminders will be sent to patients aged 6-25 years whose records show that they are unvaccinated, or partially vaccinated (have only ever received one dose of the MMR vaccine).

If you are in the eligible group, and receive a reminder to have your MMR vaccine(s), please make an appointment with the Practice Nurse. If you are unsure if you would like the vaccine(s), you are welcome to make an appointment with the Practice Nurse to discuss your concerns further.

If you believe that you have already had the MMR vaccines, please provide the surgery with a copy of your immunisation record, so we can update your medical records at the practice.
